An vielen Orten kommt es zu Grundwasserabsenkung und Austrocknung. Eine wichtige Ursache daf\u00fcr ist die fortschreitende \u201eVersiegelung\u201c von St\u00e4dten und D\u00f6rfern. Dadurch flie\u00dft viel Regenwasser in die Kanalisation und Oberfl\u00e4chengew\u00e4sser ab, wonach es in Richtung \u201eNordsee\u201c abgepumpt wird. Die Folge ist ein Wassermangel im Boden. Es kann daher zur K\u00fchlung genutzt werden, um Hitzestress in St\u00e4dten zu reduzieren. <\/p><p>Die oberste Schicht der k\u00fchlenden Stra\u00dfe besteht aus Pflasterarbeiten, die das Verdampfen von Feuchtigkeit auf einer Flowsand-Stra\u00dfenschicht erleichtern. In dieser obersten Schicht werden etwa 20\u201325 Liter\/m<sup>2<\/sup> Wasser gespeichert. \u00dcbersch\u00fcssiges Wasser versickert in das darunterliegende Aquaflow-System (wasserretentive Stra\u00dfenfundierung). Durch Verdunstung wird die Temperatur auf der Stra\u00dfe um 10\u00b0 \u2013 12\u00b0C gesenkt und der \u201eHeat Island\u201c-Effekt verschwindet.
